Types of Vinyl Flooring
Homogeneous sheet vinyl flooring
Homogeneous sheet vinyl flooring has a uniform texture throughout the entire sheet, allowing its installation on any surface. The homogeneity allows it to have a smooth surface that is not chip or flake. The smooth surface makes these vinyl sheets easy to clean with a vacuum or mop. You can install these materials over concrete floors, but we recommend using them over wood because they will not damage the wood underneath the vinyl flooring if they get wet or dirty.
Heterogeneous vinyl sheets
Heterogeneous vinyl sheets contain different structures in each layer to imitate different flooring materials, such as stone and hardwood. You can use them without additional layers added on top to create distinct patterns and designs within the same flooring material.
Composition and Thickness of Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl Composition: A vinyl floor is a robust plastic flooring composed of several layers: the base, a fiberglass protective layer, the design, and the finish. The thickness of the layer and the resilience of the substrate determine the durability of vinyl. This means the more layers, the better the flooring.
Vinyl Aesthetics: Vinyl is available in a wide range of designs, colors, types, and patterns, making it widely popular for all settings. It can easily replicate other floor coverings (such as tiles and hardwood).
Vinyl Thickness: Vinyl flooring comes in different thicknesses ranging from 1 to 3.5 mm and widths ranging from 2 to 4 meters. Know that heavily loaded floors necessitate stronger and thicker materials than less heavily loaded floors. The best is to speak to your vinyl flooring supplier about your needs in detail so that he can recommend you the best thickness.
Application of Vinyl Flooring
Residential LVP is an ideal choice for living areas such as the living room, dining room, and bedrooms. It's comfortable underfoot and easy to clean, making it a perfect fit for spaces where families gather and spend most of their time.

Kitchens and Bathrooms
Luxury vinyl flooring is water-resistant, making it an excellent choice for moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms. It stands up to spills, splashes, and humidity, all while maintaining its beauty and durability.

Basements
LVF is also a great option for basement spaces, as it can withstand moisture and temperature fluctuations. It provides a warmer and more comfortable alternative to traditional concrete floors, creating a welcoming environment for various activities.

Bedrooms and Playrooms
In bedrooms and playrooms, LVF provides a soft surface that's gentle on the joints and comfortable for playing or walking. It also serves as an excellent sound insulator, reducing noise transmission between floors.

Plank vinyl varies in size, with most widths ranging from 6 inches up to 7 3/4 inches but varying between 5 inches and 8 inches and typical lengths ranging from 36 to 48 inches. In comparison, real wood is at least 6 inches wide and can be as long as 8 to 12 feet, so it’s no wonder that most planks mimic the width of authentic hardwood.
Your design style and room size may dictate the size of the planks. Wider luxury vinyl planks provide a more modern tile feel and are excellent for larger or wider rooms. Bigger rooms allow for wider 6- to 8-inch planks since smaller planks will make it appear too busy. Narrower planks may give a more traditional feel and be better suited for smaller spaces.
Using narrower 3- to 5-inch planks will help to open up a narrow or tiny room and make it appear bigger than it really is, whereas using the wider planks will dwarf the space. The wrong size plank, such as too wide in a narrow area or too narrow in a large area, can make the entire room feel “off.”
Vinyl is one of the easiest floors to install. However, how you install your floor will depend on the vinyl product you choose and on the manufacturer's installation instructions.
However, regardless of the type of vinyl floor you choose, you still need to undertakea few preliminary steps to ensure you install your floor properly. To get started, you need to do the following:
In most cases, you need to remove the existing floor covering. However, there are a few exceptions. Rigid LVT, for instance, can be installed directly over tiles and most existing subfloors. Vinyl roll can be laid over linoleum coverings, but the floor must be in good condition, without any cracks, and cleaned beforehand. It’s not recommended to install vinyl roll or LVT on carpet or very flexible plastic coverings with textile or foam backing such as old vinyl floors. It’s also not recommended to install vinyl roll on tile due to the telegraphing effect where the joints of the tiling become visible on the surface of the vinyl roll. If you are installing on tiles, you need to use a levelling compound to ensure the floor is level and flat.
Ensure the subfloor is dry, clean and flat.
Remove your vinyl floor from its packaging and keep it in the room where it is to be installed for at least 24 hours so that it can adjust to the room temperature.
